Discover Autumn Walks & Wildlife in North West Norfolk

Nestled on the North West Norfolk coast, at Heacham Manor we are lucky enough to be surrounded by a multitude of nature, including stunning wildlife and the perfect scenic walking routes. With the autumn season well and truly underway, it’s the best time of year to get out into nature and watch the seasonal colour shifts that the countryside is infamous for.

As the year draws to a close, it’s the best time to book some much-needed rest and rejuvenation time. With a choice between the luxury of the Manor House, the cosiness of our Cottages, and the contemporary space of the Pavilion suites, we offer a real variety of accommodation for your break base, idyllic for a couples weekend retreat. To help you plan your trip away, we’ve listed some of our favourites of the autumnal wildlife walks to complement your stay.

Holme Dunes Hunstanton Circular

Starting out as a 5–7-mile walk, this route shows the beauty of the coastline with a stop within the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Holme Dune Nature Reserve. With a number of natural habitats offering the chance to spot Natterjack Toads, Butterflies and Dragonflies this walk offers a brilliant excursion for any nature-loving group of friends or couple.

Ringstead Norfolk Songline Loop

Steering off from the coast and staying a little more inland, the Songline loop is around 7 miles taking you around the charming nearby village of Ringstead. Keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse into the Courtyard Farm. Home to conservationist Lord Melchett, giving eager wildlife lovers a look into the wildlife habitats situated here. With views over the coastline, country lanes and a tour through the village this is the perfect all-rounder walk.

After your trek why not make your way back to the Manor for a rewarding meal at the Mulberry restaurant? – the perfect stop for couples.

Thornham to Holme Dunes

Neighbouring Hunstanton, this route offers a simple walk averaging at 2hours and 14 minutes, with a good mix of scenery with an easy-to-follow path. The route starts in the town of Thornham, taking you over the coast, through nearby farms as well as a stop on the marshes making for the perfect birdwatching stop.
