Arts & Culture in Norfolk this Summer

Norfolk is a county that really comes alive in the summer months, with festivals, fairs and concerts taking place almost every weekend across the region.

In our latest article, we take a look at some of the arts and culture highlights not to be missed in Norfolk this summer.

Damien Hirst at Houghton Hall

25th March - 15th July

Damien Hirst is perhaps the UK's most well known contemporary artist, and this exhibition, curated by Mario Codognato, gives the general public the chance to enjoy his artwork in a beautiful historical setting. The exhibition extends to the grounds of Houghton Hall, where you can appreciate some of Hirst's magnificent sculptures. Open from 11am on Wednesdays, Thursdays, weekends and bank holidays, this collection features some never-before seen pieces from Hirst.

The Mozart Orchestra Summer Concert at Blakeney, St Nicholas' Church

9th June, 7.30pm

The music of some of the world's most celbrated composers comes to Norfolk this summer, with the arrival of The Mozart Orchestra at St Nicholas' Chruch, Blakeney.

Attendees will be able to enjoy an evening of carefully selected music from composers such as Butterworth, Finzi, Stravinsky, Berkeley and, of course Mozart himself.

Holt Festival

21st - 29th July

The market town of Holt is transformed for a week in July, when it plays host to a range of artists, comedians, dancers, street performers and poets. The Holt Festival takes place in all venues all across this beautiful market town, including theatres, pubs, hotels and even the local church.

North Norfolk Music Festival, St Mary's Church

13th - 24th August

Now in its 14th year, the North Norfolk Music Festival brings internationally renowned performers and upcoming talent to the region. This year, the festival welcomes a number of well known classical musicians, including Melvyn Tan, the Carducci Quartet, Alasdair Beaton and the Doric String Quartet.

Outdoor Theatre, Holkham Hall

25th July - 29th August

Holkham Hall is one of the most beautiful stately homes in Norfolk, and there are a few better ways to enjoy than through an even of open air theatre in the stunning walled gardens.

Throughout the summer, Holkham Hall will be hosting a range of carefully selected theatrical performances for adults and children alike, including The Railway Children, Treasure Island, The Adventures of Dr Dolittle, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Tempest.

Attendees are advised to bring their own rugs and seating, and to prepare for all weather. It is the British Summer after all!
