On passing through the carrstone entrance walls, the winding drive takes you past the spring fed pond and under the chestnut tree towards the house.
The beautiful facade of the house appears between trees and leads you to a charming reception through the tudor arch porchway.
Built in 1580 in the reign of Elizabeth I, the first inhabitants are thought to have been French cluniac monks. Stories tell of an underground tunnel linking the house with a ruined chapel in nearby Hunstanton.
During its 400 year life the house has been owned by the Le Strange family, the explorer Hanbury Tenison, and managed by the Edrich Family. Famous England cricketers Bill Edrich and Dennis Compton are believed to have played cricket on the lawn by the side of the house.
History also suggests that Pocahontas, the American Indian wife of explorer John Rolfe, also enjoyed some Heacham Manor's restful surroundings on a short visit with her husband.
